Gaspar is a cameraman prone to depression who has not been able to get over his older brother’s untimely death. Everything in his environment makes him retreat further into himself and feed his melancholy: from the ridiculous and pretentious experimental short film he is involved in with an egocentric actress; to his home, where only his sister Margarita, a nurse, tries to
help the family pull through. The household is also made up of a dying grandfather and an almost imperceptible mother. When Gaspar begins to seriously consider suicide, chance will have him meet Álvaro, an eccentric youth whose favourite subject is death, and who seems to the cameraman to be the reincarnation of his brother.

Sebastián Silva is a multifaceted artist whose work includes painting, illustration and popular music. His paintings have been exhibited in Santiago and New York, and one of his three bands, Los Monos, was picked up for distribution in the United States and the United Kingdom by Sonic360. La Vida Me Mata is his first film; it won numerous awards in Chile, earning him the attention of critics and filmmakers. His second film, La Nana (The Maid), won the International Jury Prize at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
