Arturo is a frugal cab driver who has to come up with $1,000 within 24 hours. His older son, Ramiro, who left home three years ago, has just phoned from Houston asking for urgent help. Arturo’s wife, Irene, keeps their savings out of Arturo’s reach. That same day, Leandro, their younger son who still lives with them, plans to steal those savings, buy drugs and run away to the coast to sell them at nightclubs, in order to earn enough cash for a plane ticket to find his brother. When the situation comes to a head, Arturo once again turns into the man who forced Ramiro to flee three years earlier.
