News rocks a little town in Cuba: everyone with the last name Castiñeiras will receive a generous inheritance left by some nuns in a bank in England in the 18th century. All those bearing the lucky name are keen for their share and get started on the paperwork, but, as might be expected, many obstacles are coming their way.

“A fresh portrait of the blockade of Cuba, yet free of complexes. Amazing tale about a common dream, which strikes with ingenuity and authenticity. An ironic portrait of bittersweet realities.”

Juan Carlos Tabío started out at the celebrated Instituto Cubano de Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC) as an 18-year-old production assistant, and later as assistant director. In 1963, he launched a prolific career in documentary filmmaking covering a range of subjects, often focusing on contemporary Cuban musicians. In 1993 and 1995, he co-directed Fresa y Chocolate (Strawberry and Chocolate) and Guantanamera with Tomás Gutiérrez Alea. He later directed Lista de espera (2000), which was included as an official selection at Un Certain Regard in Cannes. El Cuerno de la Abundancia won the Special Jury Prize at the Cartagena Film Festival in Colombia.
