Ten Latin American films are looking for Oscar Nominations
Every year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences opens a call for submissions for Best Foreign Language Film of the year. This year, ten countries from Latin America have submitted nominees. The selection system varies from country to country but, in general, the process is conducted by the National Film Academy of each country.
These are the films that have been submitted:
Argentina (Aballay, el hombre sin miedo) , Brazil (Tropa de Elite 2), Chile (Violeta se fue a los cielos), Cuba, (Habanastation), Colombia (Los Colores de la Montana), Mexico (Miss Bala), Dominican Republic (La Hija Natural), Peru (Octubre), Uruguay (La Casa Muda) and Venezuela (El Rumor de as Piedras).
Argentina is the only country that has won the award for Best Foreign Language Film twice with "La Historia Oficial" and "El Secreto de sus ojos". The nominees for the Academy Awards will be announced on January 24, 2012.
