“If Latin America could speak, it would do so in the voice of Mercedes Sosa.”
In this sentence we can summarize the significance of Mercedes Sosa for our continent and for the world. She is the Pachamama. Cantora, An Intimate Journey has the purpose of reflecting an artist’s inner self, the creative moment, that thing we can’t see when we listen to music but we can feel it. Gathered over a year, it shows footage of the meetings of Mercedes with famous artists from Latin America and Spain, such as Joan Manuel Serrat, Caetano Veloso, Shakira, Gustavo Cerati, and Julieta Venegas, among others. These great artists share with Mercedes the recording of her last disc ‘Cantora’. This documentary not only shows us these unique moments, it also shows Mercedes Sosa telling us about the most important moments in her life.
