This is the first Peruvian film in the official selection at Cannes in 16 years (since "Sin Compasion" in 1994 by F. Lombardi) and the first work by these brothers, which is in the competition for the award Camera d'Or (given to the best first film). The president of the jury for the Camera d"Or is the Mexican actor, Gael Garcia Bernal. "Octubre" is part of the section Un Certain Regard, part of the official selection, but not competing for the Palm d'Or.
