El Regalo is the story of three close friends – Francisco, Pacheco and Tito. Francisco, widowed and recently retired, is having a difficult time. To cheer him up, his two friends decide to give him a gift, inviting him to the hot springs in Chillán. They also invite Lucy, Francisco’s high school sweetheart, who is excited to join them. But things do not necessarily turn out as planned. The trip brings many surprises; and when the group meets Carmen, Nicolás and Martín, nothing is the same.

 

El Regalo es la historia de tres amigos entrañables: Francisco, Pacheco y Tito. Francisco, viudo y recién jubilado, está pasando por un momento difícil. Para animarlo, sus dos amigos deciden hacerle un regalo. Lo invitan a un paseo a las termas de Chillán y, además, invitan a Lucy, novia de juventud de Francisco, quien ilusionada acepta acompañarlos. No obstante, las cosas no siempre resultan como las ideamos. Este paseo les traerá muchas sorpresas; conocerán a Carmen, Nicolás y Martín y cambiarán los planes y las vidas de todos.

Cristián Galaz was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1958. He studied philosophy at the University of Chile. In 1999, he directed the acclaimed film El Chacotero Sentimental (The Sentimental Teaser). Andrea Ugalde was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1962. In 1979, he studied architecture at the University of Chile. El Regalo was the opening film at the 2009 Chicago Latino Film Festival and was selected for the Guadalajara Film Festival in Mexico.
