Luciano lives in fear – fear of success, STDs and his doorman, for starters. We meet Luciano on a typical day: he passes out at work, obsessively calls an HIV helpline after a random sexual encounter, and unintentionally sends his best friend to the hospital.Things get even more uncomfortable for Luciano when his childhood friend Manuel, a successful producer, returns from Madrid with his beautiful girlfriend, Sofia. In town to make an Argentine version of his hit TV show, “The Paranoids,” Manuel wants Luciano to write for it. Especially unnerving is Luciano’s discovery that he’s the inspiration for the show’s main character, who even shares his name.

Luciano Gaunas, un hombre joven entre entrañable y rarito, trabaja como payaso a la vez que intenta permanente y de manera infructuosa terminar un guión. Preocupado y asustado por un sinfín de razones; todo se le viene abajo cuando Manuel, un antiguo amigo, regresa de Madrid. Él es la antítesis de Luciano, es el éxito personificado y para colmo, es el responsable de un programa de éxito cuya inspiración son las desdichas del propio Luciano. La envidia y la rivalidad se acentúan con la aparición de la novia de Manuel.

Gabriel Medina was born in Argentina in 1976 and he studied film at the Universidad del Cine. Los Paranoicos is his first film and has been selected for a number of film festivals, including Toronto, Havana, Buenos Aires and Seattle.
