Latin-American films will be represented at the Critic's Week and Director's Fortnight in Cannes.
If the Official Selection of the Cannes Festival did not have an important Latin-American content, the independent and parallel sections of Cannes shown in their selections a bigger frame within the Latin-American film industry, but not as important as last year.
The oldest of the parallel sections, the 48th Critics Week, included in its competition two Latin American films: from Chile “Huacho” directed by Alejandro Fernandez and from Uruguay “Mal dia para pescar”, directed by Alvaro Brechner. In she short film competition one work from Paraguay was selected, “Noche Adentro” from Pablo Lamar.
International Critics’ Week presents a very selective programming of seven feature films and seven shorts films in Cannes so that the films can get a greater visibility. Being a discoverer of new talents helped Critics’ Week bringing to the audience’s notice directors like the Mexicans Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu and Guillermo del Toro.

In the short film selections there is one coming from Brazil “Superbarroco” by Renata Pinheiro. This edition of the Director’s Fortnight will have a strong francophone content with eight films coming from France, Belgium and Canada.
Among the various sections at the Cannes Film Festival, the Directors’ Fortnight is distinguished by the independent judgment displayed in the choice of films, the “cinéphile” standards and the accessibility to non-professional audiences at the festival. In fact, the Directors’ Fortnight is the non-competitive program at Cannes that is open to the general public, which can buy a subscription for the entire program or purchase tickets for individual screenings.
