SECRETOS DE LUCHA, Added screening, free admision.

Secretos de Lucha (Secrets of the Struggle), has been added to the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival line up. The film will play in our selection called “Real Images VLAFF at SFU”, Saturday 13th at 5PM at Harbour Center. This film is a free admission event.

Secretos de Lucha won the award of best documentary at the Biarritz Latino Film Festival in 2007. It also won the people choice award at the Sidney Latin Film Festival.

The director, Maiana Bidegain, will be attending the screening.

The journey of a young woman who travels to Uruguay following her father’s steps in search of what really happened to her family during the darkest years of the Uruguayan dictatorship. Through her father’s eyes and his seven sisters and brothers’ confessions, she tries to understand why they kept their memories silent for so long. From the French Bask country to South America, she follows their steps and explores their individual struggles, whether these were through union or legal political actions, or through clandestine activities within an ur- ban guerrilla organization called the Tupamaros. A silence that has left so many wounds is yet to be healed.

El caminar de una joven mujer, Maiana, en búsqueda de una memoria familiar ocultada por los sombríos años de la dictadura militar uruguaya. Acercándose a sus tíos y tías, en sus charlas y con paciencia recoge testimonios de una vida de luchas contra la opresión, legales o clandestinas. Tratando de entender las razones de silencio de años aún dentro de la familia, Maiana levanta el velo sobre las heridas aún por curar y los miedos que por fin se superan, liberando las palabras para explicar a la joven generación las victorias por emprender para alcanzar una verdadera justicia social.
