"Abel," the first film directed by Mexican actor, Diego Luna, screens at Cannes. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the USA and has screened at the Cannes Film Festival in a special screen out of competition. "Abel," the "Y tu mama tambien" star's freshman fiction film, looks at the emotional fallout of a father's disappearance on his 9-year-old son. It is a bittersweet comedy in which the young protagonist recovers his speech after retreating into muteness when his father walks out on the family.
