VLAFF Short Film Competition 2012

The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival announces the call for entries for its 2nd Annual Short Film Competition, to be held during VLAFF's 10th edition, from August 31 to September 9, 2012. The competition is open to Latin American fiction, animated and documentary short films finished during the 2011-2012 period, with a maximum running time of 15 minutes.

Submission Guidelines:

The deadline for the submission of projects is May 18, 2012 (entries postmarked by that date will also be considered in the competition). The projects will be enrolled by filling out the submission form (download) and sending a copy of your film to the VLAFF Office in Vancouver. Incomplete submission forms will not be accepted. Any short films that have already been screened in Vancouver are excluded from the competition.

Selection Process:

Participating filmmakers should send a selection copy of their short film with English subtitles in a region-free DVD. The selection committee will evaluate all entries.

Shipments should be made to VLAFF's office at:

420 - 111 West Hastings St.
Vancouver B.C. Canada
V6B 1H4

All packages should be visibly labeled with the following caption: "NO COMMERCIAL VALUE - FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES ONLY".

Films not selected for screening will become part of the Festival's cinematographic archive.

The selected short films' list will be published at the VLAFF's website on July 6, 2012.

Selected Short Films:

The selected short films' screening copies will be sent (with English subtitles) by August 3, 2012. Filmmakers will be responsible for shipping them to the VLAFF and we will be responsible for the return shipping of the films. Filmmakers will have to send 2 high-resolution stills (jpeg or pdf in 300 dpi) of their short film to programming coordinator before the deadline mentioned above.

Jury:

The jury will be composed of film industry and communications professionals.

Prize:

The Jury will grant a Prize for the Best Short Film and an Honorary Mention at its own discretion. The director of the winning Short Film will be awarded a $500 (Cdn) cash prize.
